Course Content

This is an introduction to Hairdressing as a career; you will be studying a course in Basic Hairdressing Skills, developing your knowledge and understanding of this profession.  During the course you will have the opportunity to style hair, develop blow drying techniques and practise a wide range of hairdressing skills.  You will be working in a purpose built hairdressing salon with a qualified Hairdressing Instructor and assessor.

  • 003 Shampoo and conditioning
  • 113 Health and Safety
  • 103 Styling women’s hair
  • 111 Colouring hair using temporary colour
  • 112 Create a hair and beauty image (competition)

Methods of assessment

Each unit is delivered in the same way; the morning is theory, the afternoon practical. There are theory and practical tasks, one for each unit. Students will be expected to develop a portfolio of evidence for each of these units and will also be assessed throughout the course.  The course is assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Portfolio of practical assessments for each unit
  • Assignments and tasks
  • Multiple-choice tests covering the underpinning knowledge
  • Your behaviour will also count towards your assessment, in terms of maturity, development,  interaction and communication
